MapleStory Classic World Memory Match is an online memory pairing game themed around MapleStory Classic World monsters. Players flip hidden monster cards, memorize each monster's position, and find all matching pairs to complete the level.

The game features 16 progressive levels, scaling from 3 pairs up to 45 pairs. A 3-second preview at the start lets you quickly memorize card positions. After completing each level you earn a 1–3 star rating based on moves used — chasing 3 stars means minimizing wasted flips.

Levels & Star Rating

The game features 16 carefully designed progressive levels, with card pairs scaling from 3 pairs in Level 1 up to 45 pairs in Level 16. This gradual difficulty curve draws on Flow Theory in game design, ensuring players remain in the optimal balance between skill and challenge. Each level begins with a 3-second global preview, giving players a chance to build an initial spatial memory map.

Star ratings use a quantitative formula based on moves: base moves = pairs × 1.5. Achieving ≤ base × 1.2 moves earns 3 stars, ≤ base × 1.8 earns 2 stars, and simply completing the level earns 1 star. The unlock mechanism is also tiered: Levels 1–6 require only 1 star to unlock the next level, Levels 7–12 require 2 stars, and Levels 13–16 demand a full 3 stars. This design encourages players to pursue perfect performance in later stages.

“Flow occurs when challenges and skill levels are matched — too difficult leads to anxiety, too easy leads to boredom.” — Csikszentmihalyi, M. (1990). Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience. Harper & Row.

MapleStory Classic World Monster Cards

Every card in Memory Match corresponds to a real monster from MapleStory Classic World. The monster images and data are sourced directly from MSCWHub's Monster Wiki database, which catalogs hundreds of Classic World monsters with complete information including level, EXP values, HP/MP, elemental resistances, drop items, and spawn maps. This means every monster you encounter in the game can be looked up in the wiki for detailed stats.

This deep integration between gameplay and database is one of MSCWHub's core design principles: games are not just entertainment, but gateways to exploring the Classic World universe. After discovering a new monster in Memory Match, you can immediately visit its wiki page to learn about its attributes and drops, even check its spawn map to plan your training route. Similar cross-module connections exist in the Runner game and Character Designer as well.

“MapleStory Classic World is dedicated to recreating the most authentic MapleStory experience, including classic monster designs, class skills, and social systems.” — Nexon, MapleStory Classic World Official Announcement (2024).

Tips & Strategy

To earn 3-star ratings and climb the global leaderboard in Memory Match, here are some proven strategy tips:

  • Maximize the 3-second preview: don't try to memorize all cards — focus on 2–3 easily recognizable pairs (bright colors or unique shapes) and learn the rest during gameplay.
  • Use systematic scanning: flip cards left-to-right, top-to-bottom to avoid memory confusion from random clicking. When you reveal an unknown card, prioritize matching it with previously seen cards.
  • Group monsters by visual traits: mentally cluster similar-colored or typed monsters together (e.g., all green monsters, all mushroom types) — this is more efficient than memorizing individual positions.
  • Late levels (13–16) require 3 stars to unlock, so practice low-move completions in mid-game levels to build precise memory habits. The base move formula is pairs × 1.5, and 3 stars requires ≤ base × 1.2.
“Chunking is a core strategy of human working memory — by organizing information into meaningful units, memory capacity can be significantly enhanced.” — Miller, G. A. (1956). The Magical Number Seven, Plus or Minus Two. Psychological Review, 63(2), 81–97.
