Overview
Zakum is THE iconic boss of classic MapleStory — a massive stone idol with multiple arms, each acting as an independent target. Defeating Zakum is a rite of passage for any serious player.
Location:Zakum's Altar (El Nath)
Recommended Level:50+ (full party), 60+ (comfortable)
Party Size:6-18 players recommended
Entry Item:Eye of Fire (obtained from prequest)
The Zakum Prequest
Before you can fight Zakum, you must complete the prequest chain:
1. Talk to your 3rd Job Instructor in El Nath — ask for permission to do Zakum quests
2. Collect materials — various items from El Nath area monsters
3. Jump Quest — navigate the Zakum entrance jump quest (practice recommended!)
4. Obtain Eye of Fire — the key item needed to enter Zakum's Altar
5. Mine Zombies drop Gold Teeth (need 30) in the Dead Mine Shaft maps
Tip: The jump quest is notoriously difficult. Practice the jumps before attempting with a full party.
Fight Mechanics
Phase 1: The Arms
• Zakum has 8 arms, each with its own HP bar
• Arms must be destroyed before targeting the body
• Arms use various attacks: magic, physical, status effects
Priority:Destroy arms that are healing or buffing Zakum first
Phase 2: The Body
• Once all arms are destroyed, target the main body
• Zakum uses powerful AoE attacks
1/1 HP Drain:Can drain your HP to 1 — keep potions ready!
Summon:Spawns additional monsters
Magic Cancel:Dispels your buffs — reapply quickly
Party Composition
2-3 Warriors:Tank arms and body, use Hyper Body for party HP boost
1-2 Priests:Healing is essential — Holy Symbol for EXP bonus too
2-3 Mages:AoE damage for arms, elemental attacks
2-3 Bowmen/Thieves:Consistent single-target DPS

Zakum Helmet:— One of the best helmets in the game, highly sought after

Important Notes
• Zakum helmets sell for millions of mesos on the Free Market
• Coordinate arm targeting with your party — don't all focus the same arm
• Keep Holy Water handy for curse/darkness debuffs
• The fight can last 10-20 minutes — bring enough potions
• Respawns are competitive — multiple parties may queue
